What Is SMILE Pro Eligibility?
SMILE Pro eligibility refers to the medical criteria that determine whether flapless laser vision correction is a safe and effective option for you. These criteria include your refractive error (myopia and astigmatism), age, prescription stability, and corneal measurements. The ranges below are general guidance — every case is confirmed individually.
Who Is a Good Candidate
Myopia (nearsightedness) from -0.5 to -10.0 diopters
Astigmatism up to 5.0 diopters
Age 18–45
Stable eyeglass/contact lens prescription for at least 12 months
Adequate corneal thickness confirmed on corneal scan
No active eye disease or infection
When SMILE Pro May Not Be Suitable
Prescription still changing year to year
Corneal thickness below the level required for safe lenticule extraction
Active keratoconus or other progressive corneal disease
Active eye infection or inflammation
Uncontrolled diabetes or certain autoimmune conditions affecting healing
Pregnant or breastfeeding (hormonal changes can affect refraction temporarily)

Am I a candidate for SMILE Pro?
Good candidates for SMILE Pro are generally aged 18–45, have myopia from -0.5 to -10.0 diopters and/or astigmatism up to 5.0 diopters, a prescription stable for at least 12 months, and adequate corneal thickness. Final eligibility is confirmed only after an in-person consultation and corneal scan.
What is the age range for SMILE Pro?
SMILE Pro is generally suitable for patients aged 18–45 with a stable prescription. Your surgeon will confirm suitability based on your individual eye measurements.
Can I self-diagnose my eligibility online?
No. Online prescription and age ranges are general guidance only. SMILE Pro eligibility can only be confirmed through an in-person consultation and corneal scan at FIO Hospital.
When is SMILE Pro not suitable?
SMILE Pro may not be suitable if your prescription is still changing, your cornea is too thin, you have active keratoconus or corneal disease, or you have an active eye infection. Your surgeon will advise on alternatives if SMILE Pro is not right for you.
Who determines my final eligibility for SMILE Pro?
Final eligibility is determined by our refractive surgery team, led by Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Khattak, following a detailed corneal scan and pre-operative assessment at FIO Hospital.
